This delicately hand-woven scarf is made of an extremely lightweight and sheer cotton-silk blend. The elegant metallic gold (“zari”) motifs along the edges make this a perfect accompaniment for a cocktail party, or any special occasion.
technique: Chanderi Weave
The region of Chanderi in central India has a rich 1,500 year old tradition of hand-weaving that produces a fine yarn with a characteristic glossy transparency unlike any machine loomed cotton or silk. Intricate Zari (metallic gold or silver) threadwork is interlaced on this fabric to make Saris which were once coveted by the royal courts all around this region. We have mindfully re-interpreted this tradition, fully preserving the gorgeous hand-woven fabric yarn, and adding a subtle Zari motif on the edges that has is inspired by the windows of Mughal Forts in India. This scarf is made in small batches by a women-owned co-operative.
