This scarf is made of hand-woven raw “Tussar” silk, a fabric with richer texture and more sheen than traditional silk. We have blended in some cotton to accentuate the texture. A series of hand-embroidered pearl-drops and an eye-catching lattice fringework make this perfect for a cocktail party, or as a classy gift for that special woman in your life.
technique: Tussar Silk Weave
Tussar is a form of wild silk that is traditionally harvested by tribes in India’s western states of Orissa and Bengal. Traditionally used to make saris for special occasions, it has found everyday use in recent times. We have paired raw Tussar’s naturally complex texture and sheen with subtle zari (metallic thread) embroidery to create a scarf that we hope you’ll find way more alluring than your average silk scarf. We are especially partial to this fabric because it sustains a 1,000 year old industry that continues to provide precious livelihood to thousands of rural tribal woman, who play a key role in the production process. This scarf is made in small batches by a women-owned co-operative.
